Chrstmas Boxes through the Girl Guides
For the third consecutive year, members of Bayfield Guiding are filling shoeboxes with gifts for children in Canada’s Northern Schools. It is a gesture of friendship that helps the students who receive them to celebrate the joy of education. What a perfect way to engage in reconciliation!
This year Bayfield Guiding is inviting members of the Trinity Anglican Church family to join them in this project if they wish to do so. There are two ways you can choose to participate.
For “I Love First Peoples”, gift-filled shoeboxes represent an opportunity to engage with communities, as they hold school celebration events with celebrity friends and distribute gift-filled shoeboxes to every child and youth. This initial event enables them to find out how they can continue to support education in each community, because each community has different needs and they place a high value on their ability to remain adaptable. They presently support students through merits and awards, anti-bullying initiatives and micro business education. The fall shoebox campaign runs from Nov. 1 to Dec. 15.
In each shoebox, they promote education and friendship, please no religious items, candy or second-hand items. But yes, you can send toothpaste! You are encouraged to include, a happy letter to connect with the child that receives your gift and it is also asked that $5 be included to help cover shipping costs.
Thank you for considering joining us in connecting with the children of Northern Canada. To learn more, we encourage you to watch a video regarding the “I Love First Peoples” school visit at https://youtu.be/756mEgCEZFY.
